Art installation with garden (2009).
This moveable and edible installation by artist collaboration Sorensen & Byrne was commissioned as part of the Mayor’s Thames Festival 2009 Feast on the Bridge programme on Southwark Bridge. The artists recreated a garden in a redundant rowing boat.
The tiny space was planted up with a bonanza of lovely fresh fruit and vegetables from the Kentish countryside including hop plants and an apple tree.
Suspended from a bold A-frame structure and operating like a pendulum the work was broadly grounded in the history of the area and lent shape to what the artists think cities of the future may look like.
